The lighter side of things

I fell down and got hurt yesterday, falling sideways off a slight elevation downhill. My thigh scraped the ground while I was sliding down, and then the left shoulder took the second brunt of the fall. Finally, my cheek hit a concrete slab taking in the final impact. I was stunned for a few seconds and my dog came running back to see if I was okay. Blood running down my cheek, I felt like crying but after looking into my dog’s bewildered eyes, somehow I smiled.  

Later at night, while perusing Bill Clinton’s ‘My Life’, I saw the following quote, and somehow, it rang true.

“Laughter is often the best, and sometimes the only, response to pain.”

Discipline

Discipline is perhaps the most important trait in personal and professional success. Discipline, when adhered to resolutely, becomes habit forming. Good habits are essential, if not vital.

Jim Collins in his book, Good to Great, outline the quality’s of Level5 leaders as:

Disciplined People
Disciplined Thought
Disciplined Action

Resolutions’08 – 1

In 2008 let us sit at the feet of Confucious, Socrates, Plato, Aristotle, Nietzsche, Einstien, and GetaFix7.

Let us follow man’s odyssey with Herodotus, Thucydides, Tacitus, Gibbon.

We should make them our friends so that we are molded by the company we keep.

Friedrich Nietzsche – German existentialist …

Friedrich Nietzsche was a philosopher. who wrote critiques of religion, morality, contemporary culture, philosophy, and science, using a distinctive style and displaying a fondness for aphorism. Nietzsche’s influence is substantial within and beyond philosophy, notably in existentialism and postmodernism.

I cannot believe in a God who wants to be praised all the time.

Fear is the mother of morality.

The best weapon against an enemy is another enemy.

Insanity in individuals is something rare – but in groups, parties, nations and epochs, it is the rule.

And if you gaze for long into an abyss, the abyss gazes also into you.

Ah, women! They make the highs higher and the lows more frequent.

For the woman, the man is a means – the end is always the child.

A pair of powerful spectacles has sometimes sufficed to cure a person in love.

A woman may very well form a friendship with a man, but for this to endure, it must be assisted by a little physical antipathy.
