Pride, Sloth, Greed
How can he, who is dust and ashes, be proud?
Even in life, his bowels decay.
Pride was not created for man,
nor anger for those born of woman.When will you arise from your sleep?
A little sleep, a little slumber,
a little folding of the hands to rest;
and poverty will come upon you like a robber
and want, like an armed man.
Do not be greedy. A greedy eye is a bad thing.
What has been created more greedy than the eye?
In every matter be thoughtful.
There is no wealth better than health of body
and there is no gladness above joy of heart.
Men will praise the one who is liberal with food
and their testimony to his excellence is trustworthy.
